acquaintances [n] someone we know casually, but not a close friend.
escalator [n] 手扶梯 vs. elevator: lift.

goes south = goes badly, south mean downwards.
My colleagues are not helping me to finish our tasks, so our whole project is going south.

[n] the feeling of having experienced a similar feeling or situation. 
I got déjà vu when I visited this place, I could have sworn that I have been here before.

This style is very chic, its so modern and different to what other designers are creating in Shanghai.

drug dealer: someone who sells drugs illegally.

astute [adj] sharp, clever, being able to assess a situation and take advantage of it.
Mike astutely avoided arrest when the police discovered he was doing something illegal.

a sting [informal noun] a carefully planned operation to catch a criminal or to get a legal result.
The sting was to try and catch Mike who was illegally selling drugs.

closer [n] a type of lawyer. Solves/closes a lot of cases hence the word “closer”.

fraud [n] someone who says they are what they are not. A deceiver or someone who is making a fake identity or fake product.

paralegal [n] legal assistant, research assistant.

Mike Ross: protagonist – main character, hero.
Mike has a photographic memory, he can remember everything that he sees and reads. This is why he has such a good understanding of the law. To avoid being caught by the police when he is illegally handling drugs for his best friend, Trevor, he walks into an interview with Harvey Spector. Mike ends up impressing Harvey and getting a job at his law firm, Pearson Hardman.
Harvey Spector: protagonist – main character.
Harvey is one of the best lawyers in New York and known for his ability to “close” cases. He is searching for an associate at the beginning of the series and decides to hire Mike even though he did not go to Harvard. He is very confident, charming and good at his job.
Jessica Pearson: protagnist – main character.
Jessica is the managing partner at the law firm that Harvey and Mike work at, Pearson Hardman. She is a very strong and independent woman. She does not know Mike’s secret.
Louis Litt: antagonist – main character.
Louis also works at Pearson Hardman, but he is trying very hard to achieve a promotion and he constantly feels like he is being overlooked in favour of Harvey. He is a lawyer that specialises in finance and is always trying to prove that he is better than Harvey. Because Mike is Harvey’s associate, he also does not like him.
Donna Paulson: supporting character.
Donna is Harvey’s assistant and friend who takes care of his daily schedule and also acts as a confidant and advisor to him.
Rachel Zane: supporting character.
Rachel has been at Pearson Hardman for many years and she is a paralegal, who is trying to get into law school. Her father is a very famous lawyer, called Robert Zane. She is also potentially Mike Ross’ love interest.
