Write about a marketing campaign that you felt was interesting/creative in China recently.

Speaking exercise

I’m Jojo, I am working in advertising company.
My job is quite interesting. I am majored in digital communication.
Speaking English to my clients during the job sometimes.

Sometimes I have to be involved in workshops, meetings. But it is difficult. I can understand what they speak but I have difficulties in discussions.
one thing is I don’t speak English for quite a long time so no confidence and thinking in Chinese and have to translate in English.

I feel so tired after work, I have no strength left.

to strengthen: to make something stronger/more resistant
I try to strengthen my upper body at the gym.

tone: how something is said.
The tone of the commercial is very serious. They show a scientist presenting hard evidences.

scene: a part of a film
The first scene of the movie happens in a restaurant.

scenery: view
The scenery from my window was beautiful.

to exaggerate : to do more than what is normally done.
Tom said. After eating in Chengdu his mouth was on fire, obviously he was exaggerating

to endorse: to say that something is good and that you use it.
Angela Baby endorsed Dove in the commercial.

logic: way of thinking
People use logic when doing math exercises.

logistics: transport of goods.
I need to confirm with the logistics department that you can receive the goods by next week.

FMCG: Fast Moving Consumer Goods.
Unilever is a company doing mostly FMCGs.

expert: someone really good and respected in a certain field.
They show an expert in the commercial.

brand ambassador : someone famous who is the face of a brand.
Angela Baby is the brand ambassador for Dove.

prejudice/bias/stigma : consideration that something/someone is not as good as the other
In China there is a stigma on unmarried women.

1.Describe
A man tries to introduce the new toothpaste to the people who are his colleagues. He first introduces the product to a woman with confidence. and in the second scene is in the elevator, he talks to 2 people. who look like his leaders.
the third scene is in the office, he walks along a young man and he keeps talking very close to him / right to his face.


It takes place in an office.
A man tries to introduce the new toothpaste to his colleagues. He first introduces the product to a woman with confidence.  The second scene is in the elevator, he talks to 2 people. who look like/ they are probably/ I guess they are  his leaders.
the third scene is in the open space, he walks along a young man/a delivery man and he keeps talking very close to him / right to his face.

2. Make sense : message

It is much like a new product launch TVC. since it is a breakthrough formula product. The TVC tries to product the new formula to the consumers very clearly.

all the things the man talks about is the new functions of the toothpaste .

The new functions is about kill the germs and it can bring a fresh flavor. and it’s a total solution for people’s mouth health.

The tone is humorous. They exaggerate the situation to make it funny.


It is much like/ it is a standard/it is a typical new product launch TVC. since the product contains/uses a breakthrough formula, the TVC tries to show the USP to the consumers very clearly.
all the things the man talks about are the new functions of the toothpaste in a funny way.

The new functions are about killing the germs and it bringing a fresh flavor to your mouth / keeping your mouth fresh. and it’s a total solution for people’s mouth hygiene.

3. Target / opinion
The target audience is most people/adults. Everyone uses toothpaste.

In the FMCG industry, brand awareness is very important. So I think the first thing is let people remember the brand.
It depends on the competition situation.

the competition is so strong/fierce so brand awareness is more important than the product’s function.

Colgate use a lot of celebrities and influencers in China. They prefer young popstars. Very good look boys and girls to sell the product. They want to to raise the resonance with the celebrities fans.
