they just lose it -> they loosened it / they made it more flexible /
they have been quite used to our competitor but then they are more defensive. -> they have been using our competitor for a long time so they are reluctant to change

We are supposed to arrive by 9 but our boss is lenient so it is ok if we arrive at 9:30

I said ” what can we learn from this? well ……” that was a rhetorical question
