Vocabulary

Hail (n): 1-  small, hard balls of ice that fall from the sky like rain.
E.g.: Hail and snow are causing dangerous driving conditions.

How come?: 1- used to ask how or why something has happened.
E.g.: So how come you missed the train?
E.g.: “We had to stop in Birmingham.” “How come?

In time: 1- early enough.
E.g.: I got home just in time – it’s starting to rain.
E.g.: If we don’t hurry up, we won’t be in time to catch the train.
E.g.: We got there in plenty of time (= we arrived early) for the beginning of the game.

On time: 1- happening or done at the particular moment that it was expected to happen or be done.
E.g.: My parents go to the house right on time.
E.g.: The meeting started right on time.
E.g.: Although I left the house a bit late, I still managed to get there on time.

Instruct (v): 1- to teach someone how to do something. 2- to order or tell someone to do something, especially in a formal way.
E.g.: He works in a sports centre instructing people in the use of the gym equipment.
E.g.: The police have been instructed to patrol the building and surrounding area.

Inform (v): 1- to tell someone about particular facts.
E.g.: The name of the dead man will not be released until his relatives have been informed.
E.g.: Why wasn’t I informed about this earlier?
E.g.: Walters was not properly informed of the reasons for her arrest.
E.g.: I informed my boss that I was going to be away next week.

Hesitate (v): 1- to pause before you do or say something, often because you are uncertain or nervous about it.
E.g.: She hesitated slightly before answering the detective’s question.
E.g.: “Do you love me?” she asked. He hesitated and then said, “I’m not sure.”
E.g.: If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call me.

Hesitant (adj): 1- If you are hesitant, you do not do something immediately or quickly because you are nervous or not certain.
E.g.: You seemed a bit hesitant about recommending that restaurant – is something wrong with it?
E.g.: She gave me a hesitant smile.

Indecisive (adj): 1- not good at making decisions.
E.g.: He is widely thought to be an indecisive leader.
