Vocabulary

Prologue (n): 1-  a part that comes at the beginning of a play, story, or long poem, often giving information about events that happened before the time when the play, story, or poem begins.
E.g.: The prologue describes events that happened ten years before the book’s story.

Epilogue (n): 1- a speech or piece of text that is added to the end of a play or book, often giving a short statement about what happens to the characters after the play or book finishes.
E.g.: The epilogue at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows tells us about Harry’s life 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts.

Sever (v): 1- to break or separate, especially by cutting:
E.g.: Her foot was severed from her leg in a car accident.
E.g.: Electricity cables have been severed by the storm.

Artery (n): 1- one of the thick tubes that carry blood from the heart to other parts of the body.
E.g.: The knife severed an artery and he bled to death.
E.g.: He had to get a surgery to repair a clog in one of his arteries.

Clog (v): 1- to (cause something to) become blocked or filled so that movement or activity is difficult:
E.g.: The roads are clogged with holiday traffic.
E.g.: Eating too much fat causes your arteries to clog (up).
E.g.: Leaves are clogging (up) the drain.

Epidemic (n): 1- the appearance of a particular disease in a large number of people at the same time:
E.g.: There’s a flu epidemic happening in the city right now.

Stigma (n): 1- a strong feeling of disapproval that most people in a society have about something, especially when this is unfair.
E.g.: There’s still a lot of stigma attached to drug addiction.
E.g.: In most places, there is no longer much of a stigma to being divorced.
E.g.: Being an unmarried mother no longer carries the social stigma that it used to in America.

Cauterize (v): 1- to burn an injury to stop bleeding and prevent infection.
E.g.: They followed a trail of blood to show Merle had killed some walkers and managed to cauterize the stump of his hand before the trail goes cold.

Stump (n): 1- the part of something such as a tree, tooth, arm, or leg that is left after most of it has been removed.
E.g.: There was a stump of a tree on the sidewalk.
E.g.: Her smile broadened to reveal two rows of brown stumps.
