Today we focused on:

Vocabulary and pronunciation.

Vocabulary

Annual (adj): 1- happening once every year.
E.g.: Our company has an annual party every December.
E.g.: Companies publish annual reports to inform the public about the previous year’s activities.

Freshwater (n/adj): 1- living in or containing water that is not salty.
E.g.: I avoid eating freshwater fish, because I’m afraid they might be contaminated.
E.g.: a freshwater lake/river

Pollution (n): 1- damage caused to water, air, etc. by harmful substances or waste. 2- 污染
E.g.: We need to solve the problem of air/water pollution
E.g.: The company claims it is not responsible for the pollution in the river.

Soar (n): 1- to rise very quickly to a high level. 2- 飞涨
E.g.: All night long fireworks soared into the sky.
E.g.: Temperatures will soar over the weekend.
E.g.: House prices soared a further 20 percent.

Decade (n): 1- ten years.
E.g.: I haven’t seen him in over a decade.
E.g.: It’s hard to believe that Titanic came out over two decades ago.
E.g.: In my opinion, the 80s were the worst decade in fashion.

Gap year (n): 1- a year between leaving school and starting university that is usually spent travelling or working:
E.g.: I didn’t take a gap year. Did you?
E.g.: Raph took a gap year after high school to work as a volunteer in Indonesia.

Bucket list (n): 1- a list of the things that a person would like to do or achieve before they die:
E.g.: I have so many things on my bucket list yet to do.
E.g.: The UK is at the top of Wing’s bucket list.

Global warming (n): 1- 全球暖化

Cirque du soleil (n): 1- 太阳剧团

Saudi Arabia (n): 1- 沙特阿拉伯

Iran (n): 1- 伊朗

Iraq (n): 1- 伊拉克
