Vocabulary

Rigid (adj): 1- stiff or fixed; not able to be bent or moved. 2- not permitting any change:
E.g.: The building has a rigid steel and concrete structure
E.g.: I was rigid with (= stiff and unable to move because of) fear.
E.g.: rigid rules of behavior
E.g.: I keep to a rigid schedule.

Code (n/v): 1- a language used to program (= give instructions to) computers.
E.g.: The children are learning to write code.
E.g.: The problem was fixed with about 150 lines of computer code.

Slope (n/v): 1- a surface that lies at an angle to the horizontal so that some points on it are higher than others. 2- (part of) the side of a hill or mountain.
E.g.: The roof is at a slope (= at an angle to a horizontal surface) of 30°.
E.g.: Snow had settled on some of the higher slopes.

Slippery (adj): 1-  If something is slippery, it is wet or smooth so that it slides easily or causes something to slide.
E.g.: This a very slippery floor
E.g.: The road was wet and slippery.

Slippery slope (n): 1- a bad situation or habit that, after it has started, is likely to get very much worse:
E.g.: You’re on a slippery slope once you start lying about your age!

Abstinence (n): 1- the fact of not doing something, such as drinking alcohol or having sex:
E.g.: The best way to avoid getting drunk is total abstinence from alcohol.
E.g.: Abstinence is the safest way to avoid drug addiction, but it’s not always the easiest thing to teach young people.
