Vocabulary

Sight (n): 1- the ability to see. 2- a place of interest, where tourist visit.
E.g.: My mother’s sight isn’t so good at night (=she doesn’t see well at night).
E.g.: The Great Wall is one of China’s most famous sights.

Sightseeing (n/v): 1- the activity of visiting interesting places, especially by people on holiday.
E.g.: We did some sightseeing in Paris.
E.g.: There was no time to go sightseeing in Seattle.
E.g.: Max went sightseeing in Lanzhou.
E.g.: I think sightseeing is exhausting, but very interesting.

Hand in (v): 1- to give something to someone in a position of authority, like your boss or your teacher.
E.g.: Have you handed in your history homework yet?
E.g.: I’ve decided to hand in my resignation (= tell my boss I am leaving my job).

Ancient (adj): 1- very, very old.
E.g.: There are many ancient cities in China
E.g.: People have lived in this place since ancient times.

Flightless (adj): 1- unable to fly.
E.g.: There are several flightless birds in the world, like the chickens, ostriches, among others.

Child-sized parrot once lived in New Zealand

Scientists found fossilized bones that belonged to the biggest parrot that ever lived. It was probably as tall as a three-year-old child and weighed around eight kilograms. The researchers found the fossils in New Zealand. They called the new parrot Hercules, a name from Greek mythology. The scientists studied the leg bones and said Hercules was about a meter tall. This is twice the size of all other known parrots. The largest parrot scientists know of is the kakapo. This is a flightless bird that also lives in New Zealand. The kakapo is on the critically endangered species list.

New Zealand is famous for its flightless birds. The kiwi is its national symbol. Scientists say kiwis could become endangered if their environment does not change. Another famous New Zealand bird is the 3.6-meter-tall moa. These flightless birds were the biggest birds that ever lived. They became extinct in the 15th century. Hercules lived about 19 million years ago. It probably ate nuts, fruit and seeds, and even other parrots. A researcher said: “Until now, no one has ever found an extinct giant parrot, anywhere. There are many more unexpected species yet to be discovered.”

My favourit super hero is Spiderman. I like him because he can run on the wall with nothing and he can use his spider power to swing in the sky. There’s a story about how did he get the spider power. He get the super power becouse he bited by a spider, after a few day, he can climb the tall budings with nothing, and swing in the sky. When he saved the world, Tony Stark found him and let he to join the “SHIELD”. So he saved the world with Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and Thour.

My favorite superhero is Spider-Man. I like him because he can run on walls without anything, and he can use his spider powers to swing from place to place / from building to building. There’s a story about how he got his powers because he was bitten / got bit by a spider. After a few days, he was able to climb tall buildings, and swing using his spider’s web. When he saved the world, Tony Stark found him and invited him to join the “SHIELD”. So he kept helping the world with Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor.
