Vocabulary

Scientific Notation – when you are writing really big numbers, you don’t have write all the digits. Instead, you can take a small number and multiply it by a big number.
e.g. The Earth weighs 6 x 10^24 kg = 6000000000000000000000000 kg

Decimal Point – when you write numbers smaller than one, you have to put a dot before them
e.g. 1/4 = 0.25
e.g. The mass of Mars is only 0.1 Earth (or 10% of Earth’s mass). This means that it is smaller than Earth.

Diameter – the distance through the middle of something round
Radius – half of the distance through the middle of something round
Circumference – the distance around the outside of something round

Rude – to say something to someone else that is not nice, or to say something in a way that is not nice
e.g. “You are very fat!” “Hey! That is very rude! You are mean!”

May – someone will let you do something, they won’t stop you, you won’t get in trouble for doing it 可以
e.g. You may live on Mars 你可以在火星住
Might be able – it is possible, it could happen 可能
e.g. We might be able to live on Mars 我们可能能住在火星

Choir – a group of people who sing together; a class where people sing together
e.g. Max has choir during fifth period on Tuesday.

Deep dish pizza – a special type of pizza from Chicago that is very thick and has a lot of cheese. Also, the tomato sauce is on top of the cheese instead of underneath!

Than is used to compare things, like 比
e.g. He is bigger than I am (他比我大)
Then is used to show what comes next, 然后
e.g. I bought a shirt and then I bought a milk tea.

For is used to give a reason.
e.g. I went to the store for food (I went there to buy food)

Grammar

With names, we usually don’t use “the”
e.g. Max, NOT the Max
e.g. Jesse, NOT the Jesse
e.g. 毛泽东, NOT the 毛泽东

I think the the Mars would be the coolest to visit because there are a legend is about Mars, it says scientist thinks there are some creatures on the Mars. Mars is bigger then the Earth, and people may be can live on Mars! Scientists is very interested of Mars. Mars can be another place to let people to live. For this, scientists are working hard. So, I think Mars would be the coolest to visit.
