Vocabulary

Syllable – the parts of a word (around one vowel sound)
e.g. a, la, an, lan

Suffix – something you add to the end of word
Prefix – something you add to beginning of a word

Confusion – a general state of disorder, a situation, the way things are

e.g. We must divide and conquer.

e.g. I am conducting research on the rates of heart disease in the male population of Shanghai based upon their economic situation.

Mitigate – to make something less intense, especially for risk
e.g. Your friend should do everything he can to mitigate the risk of his eventual job change.

Fluent – like flowing, very smooth; easy, speech
Influence – to cause some change in a decision, have some effect

Coherent – logical, an argument that makes sense and flows from one point to another
e.g. An argument must be coherent to be persuasive. If the reader can’t understand it, it will be ineffective.

ness – just about anything that ends with “ness” will be a noun, an abstract one like a noun
