Read page 16 and answer the questions on page 17. Review the vocabulary from page 13.

Also, how is this essay different from the one you read for last class? What is each paragraph for? Are any the same?
Use conjunctions like Jesse showed you last class.

Vocabulary

Memorize – to be able to say something without having to read it
e.g. I can call my family from any phone because I memorized their phone numbers.
e.g. In school I had to memorize a poem and recite it for the class.

Than – a word for comparing two things, like 比
e.g. 他比她高 = he is taller than her.

Hyphen – a small symbol, usually for connecting parts of words, or connecting an explanation (like I just used with this one) ( – )

Dash – a line a little longer than a hyphen, usually used to connect parts of sentences ( — )

Owl – 猫头鹰

Shark - 鲨鱼

Grenade - 手榴弹

Grammar

When you use a name, you don’t need to use “the.”
e.g. Nick, not “the Nick”
e.g. Dora, not “the Dora”
e.g. California, not “the California”

In English (and also Chinese) the word order in a sentence is usually: subject + verb + object
“Who does what to whom?”
e.g. “The dog bit the man” is different from “the man bit the dog.”
