Vocabulary

Economic vs. Economical – (both adjectives) related to the economy or the study of the economy; inexpensive, good use of money
e.g. The economic analysis for this quarter looks good.
e.g. Traveling by public transportation in Europe is very economical.

Frugal – someone who spends money wisely and doesn’t buy expensive things (positive)
e.g. Ed is very frugal. He always looks carefully at the prices and reviews before he buys anything.
Cheap (of a person) – someone who won’t spend money even where it would be well-spent
e.g. John is so cheap! He buys things that are so bad they break right away.

Return – to take/send a product you don’t want back to the seller
e.g. She buys so much online, but she returns most of it because she doesn’t like it!
Refund – to give money back for a returned product or for a service poorly performed
e.g. Once she returns the product, they refund the money.

Made history – to do something notable
A history – a story of what happened

Whole – all of something, or in every part

Grammar

Would vs. Should vs. Could – hypothetical vs. normative vs. possibility
— “Would” requires a condition, something that if it were true would mean that you certainly will do something.
e.g. If I had a million dollars, I would go buy a trumpet from the Monette factory.
— “Should” is for giving advice, telling someone what you think is better.
e.g. You really should make sure to study all of your notes.
— “Could” is also hypothetical, but is about possibility.
e.g. If I had a million dollars, I could buy that really cool trumpet.

Each of these is a past-tense verb used to talk about the future. This makes them more “uncertain.”
Will –> Would
Shall –> Should
Can –> Could

Speaking exercise

Last weekend, it’s the aha! moment came in my mind recently. I sat down to read Oprah Winfrey’s book: “What I can do for sure.” Everybody knows Oprah, she’s famous, made a history with legendary talk show and become a African American Billionaire. This book, the thing includes connection, joy, many things talk about her life story and what she learned for her whole life. One of her quote really inspired me is “you define your own life; don’t let other people write your script.”
