Vocabulary

Africa – 非洲
Asia – 亚洲
Australia – 澳大利亚
Europe – 欧洲
North America – 北美洲
South America – 南美洲
Antarctica – 南极洲

Island – a small area of land with water on all sides
e.g. England, Scotland, and Wales are three nations all sharing one island.

Attraction – a specific place that you go to because it is beautiful, interesting, has lots of history, etc.
Scenery – scenery is usually a large natural area with lots of plants and animals to look at; maybe mountains, lakes, ocean, etc.
e.g. 四姑娘 is an attraction in Sichuan province which is surrounded by very beautiful scenery.

National Geographic – a very famous magazine and tv station that shows scenery from all around the world, history, and nature 国家地理

Too – in English when we use this we mean that we have more than we want of something; it is negative
e.g. There is too much salt in this food!
NOT: This dress is too beautiful (not natural)
Instead try: This dress is so beautiful.
(Translate 太 as “so” when it is positive; when it’s a good thing)

Air quality – air without too much pollution; clean air
e.g. The air quality in Hangzhou is better than in Shanghai.

Subway Lines – each train route 线 is called a “line”
e.g. Hangzhou now has many subway lines that make it much more convenient to get around.

Among – one of a group; in a group; sometimes used to compare one thing with others in the group
e.g. You are among friends here! (You are with friends)
e.g. Among all of my friends, she is my best friend.

Take care of / Care for – to make sure that an animal or child is clean, healthy, has food to eat, is safe, etc.
Starve to death – “starve” is to be very hungry; if you are so hungry that you die, then you have “starved to death” 饿死了
e.g. The iguana starved to death in the office because its owner did not have time to take care of it.

Bug – 虫子, small creatures like insects (things with six legs), spiders (things with eight legs), worms (things with no legs), small flying creatures, etc. This is a VERY general word.

Guess – 猜, or it could mean that you think something might be some way, but you aren’t sure
e.g. How many pieces of candy are in this jar? I guess there are 1000 pieces of candy in that jar.
e.g. What do you want to eat? I guess I would like something spicy.

Grammar

She’s university – her university

The time between stations is very shortershort
— Here you want to describe the word “time,” which is a noun. So we need to use an adjective like “short”
— “Shorter” is a word used to compare two things.
e.g. He is shorter than she is.

It is too nearly – it is very near / close
— “Nearly” means “almost”
e.g. I am nearly finished eating dinner (I will be done soon; I am almost done)
— “Near” describes the position of something as being not far from here

Quickly – use this to describe how you do something
— Putting “ly” on the end of word makes it an adverb, describe a verb
e.g. The boy runs very quickly (the running is what is quick)
e.g. He eats very slowly (the eating is what is slow)
e.g. He is a very slow eater (we are describing “eater,” which is a person, a noun)

from . . . to . . . – use these together to show where you were and were you went/came to
e.g. I came from Jiao Da to Jing’an Temple.

Buybought

An – we use this so that there is an “n” between two vowels (a, e, i , o, u)
BUT, we do not use “an” when a word starts with the sound “you,” with the sound of a “y”
e.g. an apple, an echo, an iguana,

Speaking exercise

My client is car brand. So in this brand the Geely brand is develop quickly. It is local brand, not international brand. Chinese brand.  Not like Ford, Chevrolet, and GM. They have xianjing, technology and local people for do something. The local people have a factory in the local, and have international technology for the yanjiushi, develop new product, but not in China, maybe in other country.


My client is a car brand. So in this Among these brands the Geely brand is developing quickly. It is a local brand, not an international brand. In fact, it is a Chinese brand.  It is not like Ford, Chevrolet, or GM. They have international technology but have local employees to do the manufacturing. The local people have a factory in the local where they work, and have use international technology for in the lab to develop new products. But they do not do this in China. I guess they do this maybe in other country.
