Vocabulary
Quiz – when someone asks you what you know 测验
Character – just one 字
Word – one or more characters that have one meaning 词
e.g. 睡觉 is one word, “sleep,” but it is two characters
Dictionary – a book that tells you what words mean, 词典
Subject – who is doing something in a sentence? 主语
Object – who or what are they doing it to? 宾语
Noun – a person, place, or thing 名词
Adjective – a word that tells you something about a noun 形容词
Verb – what you do, what’s happening 动词
Adverb – a word that tells how you do something 副词
Take another look – look at this again, do it one more time
e.g. I thought that it was dog from far away, but when I took another look, I realized that it was a cat.
Diplomacy – the relations between countries 外交
Politics – who is in charge, who is leading a country 政治
Perspective – how something looks from where you are 视角, what you think because of what has happened to you 观点
Meaning / Definition – how you explain a word; meaning is general
General – having many examples, talking about many examples, 一般,普通,通用
Specific – just one thing, just one example 特定
Actor – someone in movies or on TV 演员
Admire – to think that what someone does is good 佩服
Grammar
Chinese sentence order:
Subject + (Extra information: when, with who, where) + Verb + Object
e.g. 我跟我的女朋友七点去吃饭
English sentence order:
Subject + Verb + Object + (Extra information: when, with who, where)
e.g. I am going to eat with my girlfriend at seven o’clock.
