Vocabulary

Fall off the wagon – when you totally screw up and miss something obvious
e.g. Did I just fall off the wagon and forget that uploaded homework for two classes?? (No, phew!)

Phew – the sound you make when you breathe a sigh of relief

Trendy – fashionable, popular, cool (a person or place or clothing style)
Trending – social-media popularity, five minutes of fame, what people are talking about (ideas, styles, phrases)
e.g. These shoes are really trendy. They just got popular recently and they exploded onto the market.
e.g. This hashtag is trending right now on Twitter, where it is big news.
e.g. This new style from [designer] is really trending right now (probably in a social media campaign, which then makes the clothes/style trendy).

Drinking the Kool Aid – there was a religious cult in the United States that believed that the end of the world was coming. So, to get ready, their leader poisoned a large amount of Kool Aid and all the believers drank it and committed mass suicide; so now, to be “drinking the Kool Aid” means to be believing some propaganda, to be a willing member of a cult
e.g. I know that they’re “lifestyle brands now.” I’m drinking the Kool Aid!

Yuppies – the new class of “young urban professionals (YUP)” in the 1980’s US

Bury the lead – when the main point is down in the middle of a paragraph, article, sentence, etc. so that the reader is a little confused at first about the relationship of the beginning of the sentence to previous sentences or the overall main point

Disposable income – extra money not required for debts, expenses, savings, etc.

Bonanza – a sudden source of great luck or wealth
e.g. The Philippines is a fruit bonanza!

Grammar

In, on, at with locations
— In is about limitations; anything that can define some area
Inside is a little stronger than “in,” but the same meaning (think boxes, or houses, something which you are trying to define clearly as “not outside”)
e.g. In the corner (there are three sides that come together and define a sort of limited area; part of a circle might also be sufficient)
On – next to a flat surface
e.g. We will hang the picture on the wall
e.g. We are standing on the platform (for standing or sitting, usually it needs to be higher than the surrounding area, BUT “on the ground”)
e.g. Please put it on the table
e.g. As a kid, I had glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling
