Vocabulary

Bark – the sound that a dog makes when a person they don’t like comes near

Grammar

What, who, where, which, that – what is the difference when we use them to add more information?
— Usually, what, who, and where are used to show that two things are the same:
e.g. This is the person who I was telling you about
e.g. This is the city where I grew up.
e.g. This theory is what I have been working on = I have been working on this theory.
“What” is just used to connect two things to show that they are the same: x = y, y = z, therefore x = z (what is “y”)

— That and which are used to add extra information.
— “That” is used for necessary information, “which” is used for extra information
e.g. Dogs that bark scare me.
— I’m not afraid of all dogs, just the ones that bark.
e.g. Dogs, which bark, scare me.
— I am afraid of all dogs, and this is because I don’t like barking. I am afraid of barking, and because some dogs bark I am afraid of all dogs.

I am afraid of all dogs because some dogs bark.
Because some dogs bark, I am afraid of all dogs.
