Homework

Review the old vocabulary (it’s been a while!)
What did you sell in the flash sale, and how did you hope to improve the business by using a new platform?

Vocabulary

Format vs. Flow – the format is how things are arranged, the shape, the placement; the flow is how you move from one part to another
e.g. We used a new format which we think should improve the flow of our website (we put things in different places so that they will easier to find, or easier to understand, or the relationships between the pages will be clearer)

Floor – the part of a building under your feet
e.g. In Chicago I went up to the SkyDeck and took pictures through the glass floor.

Deep Dish – very thick, Chicago-style pizza

Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior – high school and college

Realistic – related to reality; something which can be achieved within a limited time
e.g. Give me a realistic homework assignment! (either, something practical, or that is not too big)

Grammar

It has been a quite tough time – It has been quite a tough time
e.g. It is very red (this is also an adverb)
— Adverbs usually go after the verb.
— It seems that “quite” doesn’t usually describe adjectives like very does.

For my part, I am responsible for – I am responsible for . . . / My part in the project was . . .

The name page of our account/flash sale – The initial/main page of our account / The name of our campaign

The platform for us is new – The platform, for us, is new (this means that you were talking about someone else as well, and the program is not new for them; to clarify or to emphasize) / The platform is new for us

We launched this new campaign and had a good result – . . . and it went well / . . . and it has been going very well / . . . and the results have been very good/positive
— “Results” and “result” are used slightly differently. “Results” is more general, to talk about all the outcomes of something. “Result” means just one thing.
e.g. The results from our new campaign have been very good so far (including all areas we are trying to measure).
e.g. The result of our experiment was to confirm our hypothesis.
