Vocabulary
Case – something that protects something else by going around it, or covering it
e.g. Phone cases which say fun things are very popular.
Scratch – when something sharp or rough touches something else and leaves a mark, often like a line
e.g. I dropped my phone and scratched the case on the sidewalk.
e.g. I accidentally ran into a cat, and it was scared and scratched me.
Heritage – for watches: a model which was popular in the past, and is being used again to make watches today; something that comes from the past, like culture
e.g. I bought a new heritage watch which is modeled on a design from 1919.
e.g. China’s cultural heritage has a very long history.
Politics – the study of the government and the people; studying policies
Lunar Calendar – a calendar which is based upon the moon, not the Sun
Solar Calendar – a calendar based upon the Sun
July 4th – a US holiday celebrating independence from Britain (like a national day)
Europe/European – Europe is the place; European is an adjective, to describe something related to Europe
Britain/British – noun/adjective
e.g. It is now much cheaper to get a British visa, so many Chinese are traveling to Britain.
Spanish – 西班牙语
Portuguese - 葡萄牙语
German - 德语
French - 法语
Rumantsch – 罗曼什语 – a language, related to Italian, French, and Spanish (a “romance” language)
Romance Language – a language which comes from the language of the Romans, Latin
Grammar
