Next Class Focus

Focus on grammar next week. Perhaps try doing a writing assignment in class. Then also a speaking assignment. And focus on the grammar of the sentences. Perhaps not focus on vocabulary as intensely. Definitely next class do a longer speaking story.

Vocabulary

more international / worldly / sophisticated / cultured – this is our other way of saying a person is “national”.

e.g. Luna has traveled all over the world — she’s so international.

more drama / dramatic

e.g. Don’t marry a dramatic person or your life will turn into a reality show.

tranquil / tranquility — peaceful, serene, makes me feel quiet and thoughtful.

e.g. The running water in Japanese architecture is very tranquil.

ornate — very fancy, very detailed. (adj).

e.g. The handcrafted, ornate jewelry.

If you can use images to describe things…it makes your writing and speaking so impressive.

e.g. The FBI is a very important and historic branch of the United States government.

e.g. The FBI is the crown jewel of the United States government.

e.g. Her eyes were sparkling, and they were very beautiful.

e.g. Her eyes were like a Tiffany’s diamond.

event promotion — advertising an event so many people will attend.

e.g. Luna has a long career in event promotion.

e.g. Luna loves to promote events.

  • So if you’re unsure…just change the verb to past tense.
  • the people is more vs. the people are more
  • focusing on when plural (group or more than one vs. just one = singular) words should end in S.

Speaking exercise
