VIP Class Notes (Nicholas) [S]

Next Class Focus

Listening is good.

Focus on talking about things like wouldn’t vs. won’t, and couldn’t vs. can’t.

Vocabulary

procrastinator (noun) / procrastinate (verb) — someone who waits until the last moment (second/day) to finish their work.

e.g. the man in the lecture procrastinated until the night before.

Grammar

e.g. Back in college, I organized a forum for speakers to come talk to our students, but if you ask me what they spoke about, I couldn’t/can’t remember it clearly.

Couldn’t = Are you able to do something? Are you capable of doing it?

Can’t = I forgot

e.g. Recently, I traveled to France. And people looked at me very strangely because I can’t/couldn’t speak their language.

e.g. Recently, I went to the gym and I tried to lift a very heavy weight, unfortunately the weigh was too heavy for me, i can’t do it/couldn’t do it.

Speaking exercise

When I get in the went to college, I didn’t spend too much time on the my studies so my grades were so-so. I willwould find something interesting to do and the most important (p) thing for me I think was organizing a forum among the students. And we discussed some topics usually interested by everyone every weekthat everyone was interested in. The topics such as…I couldn’t can’t remember it clearly. I think everyone like it and want to discuss it. Most of Chinese is a little shy…is shy…but if we don’t have the teachers or leaders there, and we can talk much just among us. And there are almost about 300 students to come to present the forum. So I think it is very interesting and unforgettable (p).

I will work hard especially when the exam is coming/was coming. And I usually review to the last weekend and get the not bad scores for exam.

Not very good because I think (p) I don’t have so much money to do the things I want, but its also not bad because i have much time and can do much reading and make many friends.
