“Strawberry generation†generally refers to the people who were born in 1980’s. The reason why those people are called strawberries is that they raised up in rich material environment and are easily to get upset and offended as strawberries grown in greenhouse.
In China, compared to people of my generation who were born in post 70’s, most people of strawberry generation are the only child in their families, they might be overprotected by their parents, therefore those youngsters are more self -centered and can not bear the difficulties and pressures in real life.
I have some strawberry generation colleagues at workplaces, they are less reluctant to do basic or detailed tasks or things they don’t have interests. Also, they are not adaptable to the rules and demands of the real world and easily to quit the jobs compared with the 70’s generation.
However, from the other point of view, most of them are well-educated and have more opportunities to get information and resources from all over the world due to their rich family conditions and the development and openness of china. As such they are more open-minded than the earlier generation and pay more attentions to the works they really want to do. Some of my 80’s friends started their own business after they left the company. I really admired their courage.
People in different generations have their own problems, those of strawberry generation are aware of what they are face with- a more insecurity future , lots of competition as well as the heavy family burden since they are the only child to support their aged parents. Nowadays those of strawberry generation work very hard to improve themselves to avoid truly crush as strawberries.
