Speaking exercise

No nagging from my parents

When I was at school, my mother always talk about something “I can’t do this, I can’t do that”. I was in SH with my classmates. There were 6 people. I came here for my internship.

Maybe is because we’re from different cities and there are some words about Shanghainese that they don’t like on local people so I know that thing. When I came here I heard something about they don’t like people from other cities so I think maybe I’m often. It’s the first impression that SH gives me.

There are two parts of it: one is work, one is my apartment. For work, I always change the job because I don’t really know what to do for job and for my apartment. Sometimes I had to change place too. Now, the place I live in is the first time where I lived in SH. There’s no funny places in SH so every time I hang out with my friends, we don’t know where to go.

Revised:

I don’t like when my parents nag at me/My parents are controlling with me. Ā

When I was at school, my mother always said things likeĀ “I can’t do this, I can’t do that”. I came to/moved toĀ SH with my classmates. There areĀ 6 people. I came here for my internship/to do an internship.

Maybe it’s because we’re from different cities and there are some rumours thatĀ Shanghainese people don’tĀ like/look down onĀ people from other cities. It’s the first impression that SH gaveĀ me.

There are two reasons: one is work, one is my living situation. For work, I always change jobs because I don’t really know what to do for a living/for work. Sometimes I have to move to a new place/relocate too. Now, the place I live in is the same as the place which I lived in when I first moved here. There areĀ no fun/interesting places in SH so wheneverĀ I hang out with my friends, we don’t know where to go/have any ideas.

Writing exercise

Everyone is different makes every family differently, I think this is the reason why some people feel homesick and some donā€™t.

I always feel homesick since Iā€™m living far away from my families. I had a good time when I stayed at home. My mom cooked for me everyday, although there were not too much different cuisine, I still love her food. My younger sister and I, we were close and always having lots of fun. But now I canā€™t meet them every time I want, we all have our jobs to do, it makes me feel lost. So I guess why I feel homesick is I need their company. Iā€™m also sure they want me to go home.

As for some people donā€™t miss home, there could be many reasons. For example, thereā€™s a bad relationship with family members. Or theyā€™re satisfied with their current life. Perhaps some people donā€™t feel homesick is that they didnā€™t realize it. People are busy and having a lot of pressure nowadays, they donā€™t have much time for personal emotions. Once they are leisured, that homesick feelings would come out.
