996 means to work from 9 am to 9pm 6 days a week. I know people who work 996, like my classmate who work in IPO team of investment banking. For them, it’s more like 007. They make their choice voluntarily. They are so willing to get into that occupation that they’re willing to sacrifice their time to play, places to visit, so they can have certain certificate, and be an expert in financial analysts. To be a junior in investment banking industry. Though I don’t think it’s a wise choice to be devoted to work that much, I totally envy those guys who can make such great money at an early age. I think for them, work-life balance is more like you need certain people playing certain roles in the family life. A person I know married a girl who can sacrifice all her time for the family, the girl does everything for him, and takes care of the baby for him. Personally, what I don’t like about this mode of life is, you miss too much on something you could have, like the growth of your child, taking care of the elder people, I think it has a problem for me to play my role in the family as a woman. But it’s for sure that I envy those guys because they can make so much money at such a young age.
