It is said that there is a difference between the north and the south. The fundamental reason for such a contradiction must come from the two cities. One is the ancient capital of many dynasties with a long history, the other one is an economically developed port city. There are certainly culture differences between the two cities.

Beijing has been the capital since the Yuan Dynasty, it has been through many dynasties for over 700 years such as Ming and Qing dynasties. All of this dynasties left deep or shallow marks on Beijing, or it could be said that Beijing has rich history and culture.Shanghai is growing a bit faster than Beijing. The city’s rapid growth has also made it nostalgic. Now Shanghai begun to pay attention to its own history, the old houses and alleys on the streets evoking memories.

Beijing has been an ancient capital for centuries. People who grew up in Beijing are polite and well-behaved, and even their wisecracking can be traced back to history. But Shanghai started out as a port and soon had many concessions. So people who grew up in Shanghai are more open-minded. The open mind was also enables emerging enterprises to take root in Shanghai.

Having said the differences between the two cities, let’s talk about this pair of “friends”, there are many different habits and attitudes between Shanghainese and Beijinger. But whether it’s coffee or garlic, it’s a part of life and it’s not high or low.

Beijingers are fastidious in life and don’t avoid the vulgar. And Bejingers pay attention to both refined and popular tastes, elegant things are easy to learn, but it is hard to find elegance among the vulgar. Shanghainese are fastidious in their life, but elegant. Shanghainese pay attention to the appearance, with a delicate makeup and a designer bag on their back.

Beijingers like to drink tea in their life, they can’t put down the teacup at hands from morning till night. They also like to eat garlic, they would like to eat garlic every meal. Beijingers can’t live without salt, They eat more salt particles than rice particles. But Shanghai is a coffee drinker and has most cafes in China, its said that when I’m not at home, I’m either at the cafe or on the way to the cafe. Shanghainese like to eat sweet, they put sugar in noodles and stir-fries, and they even put sugar in spicy food.

Beijingers prefer paper money, while Shanghainese prefer coins. One the one hand, the climate is different between north and south. The south is more humid, and paper money thens to collapse. On the other hand, Beijingers are little careless, coins don’t sound good in their pockets, and they are easy to lose.

Beijingers have a “noble spirit”, they have an aristocratic temperament. “noble spirit” is also konwn as the soul of Beijinger. Shanghainese have the “spirit of a gentleman and a lady”, Shanghainese are very orderly on the streets, and they have their own program for whatever they do.

Revised

It is said that there is a difference/clear distinction between the north and the south. I will analyze the problem/issue through two different cities.  One is the ancient capital of many dynasties, the other one is an economically developed port city. There are certainly culture differences between the two cities.

Beijing has been the capital since the Yuan Dynasty, it has been the capital for over 700 years throughout Ming and Qing dynasties. All of these dynasties had left its marks on Beijing, or it could have been said that Beijing has a rich history and culture.Shanghai is developing a bit faster than Beijing. The city’s rapid growth has also made it nostalgic. Now Shanghai begins to pay attention to its own history by keeping/ maintaining the old houses and alleys on the streets that evoke memories.

Beijing has been an ancient capital for centuries. People who grew up in Beijing are polite and well-behaved. However, Shanghai started out as a port and soon possessed many concessions. So people who grew up in Shanghai are more open-minded, which enables emerging enterprises to root in Shanghai.

Having said the differences between the two cities, let’s talk about this pair of “friends”, there are many different habits and behaviors between Shanghainese and Beijinger, but they’re incomparable.

Beijingers are elegant in life and don’t avoid the vulgar. They pay attention to both refined and popular trends, but they don’t look down on others. Shanghainese are also elegant. Shanghainese pay attention to the outward appearance, they often wear delicate makeup and a designer bag on their back.

Beijingers like to drink tea 24/7. intheirlife,  They also like to eat garlic, they would like to eat garlic with everything every meal. Beijingers can’t live without salt, They consume more salt than rice particles. But Shanghai is a coffee city and has the most cafes in China, there is a saying  that “when I’m not at home, I’m either at the cafe or on the way to the cafe”. Shanghainese like to eat sweet things, they put sugar in noodles and dishes, and they even put sugar in spicy food.

Beijingers prefer cash, while Shanghainese prefer coins. On the one hand, the climate is different between north and south. The south is more humid, and will affect the texture of the bills. On the other hand, Beijingers are a little careless, coins don’t sound good in their pockets, and they are easy to lose.

Beijingers have a “noble spirit”, they have an aristocratic temperament. “noble spirit” is also known as the soul of Beijinger. Shanghainese have the “spirit of a gentleman and a lady”, Shanghainese obey the rules on the streets, and they have their own plan for whatever they do.
