Chronic cough is a symptomatic diagnosis that persisting cough for over 8 weeks, affecting in 10% Chinese population.
Most patients conduct self-treatment when cough occurs, if the condition doesn’t relieve within 2 weeks, most patients choose to go to hospitals for further diagnosis and treatment.
1. Symptom appears and self-treatment When initial symptom appears, most patient choose seeking help from pharmacy, online information or relatives.
2. 1st hospital visit Some patients go to community hospital/ primary hospital for medical consultation, while some go tier III hospital firstly due to there is no referral restrictions in China.
3. 2nd hospital visit most patients who visit primary hospital initially will choose go to tier III hospitals.
4. Patient distribution by department ~80% CC visit respiratory department for initial consultation, although some patients might go to other departments for initial visit, they would go to respiratory for diagnosis if the condition can’t be controlled
