Vocabulary

1. pick up the call= 接电话
ex: why didn’t you pick up my call? 

2. hang up= 挂电话
hang up on XX (sb)= 挂XX电话
ex: my mom hung up on me because she was angry.
ex: I get very angry if my boyfriend hangs up on me. 

3. useless= 没用的
useful= 有用的
ex: the english curriculum in public school is useless.

4. meaningless= 没有意义
meaningful= 有意义的
ex: It’s meaningless to date a married man.
ex: it’s meaningless to hang up on your boss.

5. pointless=没点 没重点
ex: can you get to the point? 你能说重点吗？
ex: this meeting is pointless, the boss isn’t here.

last Saturday I was angry, I went to a shopping mall with my friend and my boss asked me call him in the evening. I told him when I go home, it was very late. He required me to call him at 10pm. 10 o’clock I called him, we had online meeting with another colleague. He required me told him about construction permit. I asked NanJing government, they just say this permit is very complicated, I can’t tell you clearly on the phone. I think they didn’t want to tell me about this permit because they’re lazy. I told my boss about this and some rules which I searched for the internet. My boss said it’s useless!

He criticized me. At that time I was annoyed, it’s so late and it is Saturday. I need a rest, I don’t want to think about work. He told another colleague about this permit, but he didn’t know it either. So my boss criticized us for a long time. In the end he said it’s very late, you should hang up the call. I didn’t say anything, I just hang up on him. This Monday, he said everyone work in my company, if you are unhappy, I am unhappy, I think it is meaningless.
