Speaking exercise

996 is a hot topic recently. Ma Yun said something about it, I think he said if you can work 996, which means you are still useful in the company, because for most of the IT companies, they require this type of younger and stronger to work from 9-9 and actually my husband work for a famous IT company, and the boss said he will work from 8-9 for 6 days a week, and he asked staff from 9-9. One day, my husband was told by the HR department, he has to fire one staff, the reason is staff always leave office at 8pm. For me, I think it’s illegal, if it’s not a factory, you have to work 8 hours a day. For a normal company, if you want someone work more than 8 hours, you have to file to the labour bureau. I asked my husband, can the staff accept it? They all know this is the reality, that’s very cruel.

I think we all get used to it, because he has been working for IT company for more than 15 years. When he was thirty, it’s not so difficult, he was a young man. Also, even you work so hard, you still have a chance to be fired because of your age. This happens so often in IT companies. My husband changed the company last year, because in his previous company, the company will fire 10% of the management, not because they do bad, but because they are born before 1970.

Revised

996 is a hot topic recently. Ma Yun said something about it, I think he said if you can work 996, it means you are still useful/valuable for the company, because for most of the IT companies, they require this type of younger and stronger employees to work from 9-9. Actually my husband works for a famous IT company, and the boss works from 8-9 for 6 days a week, and he asks his staffs to work from 9-9. One day, my husband was told by the HR department to fire one of his staffs, the reason is because the staff always leaves office at 8pm. For me, I think it’s illegal, if it’s not a factory, you can only work 8 hours a day. For a regular company, if you want someone to work more than 8 hours, you have to file the hours to the labour bureau. I asked my husband, did the staff accept it? They all accept the reality, it’s a cruel working environment.

I think we all got used to it, because he has been working in the IT industry for more than 15 years. When he was thirty, it wasn’t as physically demanding, he was a young man. Also, even if you work really hard, you still have a chance to be fired because of your age. This is a common phenomenon in the IT industry. My husband changed his job last year, because in his previous company, they fired 10% of the management, not due to poor performance , but because they were born before 1970.
