1.in advance= 提早
ex: if you want to see a concert, you need to book the tickets in advance.
ex: this is a popular restaurant, you need to book in advance/ make a reservation in advance. 

2. make a reservation = 预定（活动／餐厅）
make an appointment=预约（人／医生／牙医／诊所)
ex: Hi, I would like to make an appointment with Dr. (      ).
