Bodies of water

There a re different types of water bodies. The largest are oceans, which are large open areas of salt water . Many people refer to oceans as seas, but seas are in fact smaller than oceans and are connected to oceans. They are typically partially enclosed by land. Lakes are large bodies of water surrounded by land. Most lakes are freshwater. Ponds are surrounded by land but they are smaller than lakes.

There are flowing bodies of water, like rivers. Rivers flow into other rivers, lakes or seas. Streams, creeks and brooks are also flowing bodies of water but they are narrower and shallower than rivers.
