VIP Class Notes (Nicholas) [S]

Next Class Focus

For pronunciation let’s focus on correcting words that:

end in “le”

contain “au

or contain “th

The letter “L” like ELLE or ELLA

For next class: I recommend we watch an Apple/Google/TED keynote presentation. We should notice how they speak, the flow of the speech, and how they are using their hands. Especially their pronunciation — it’s very slow and deliberate.

Vocabulary

micromanage / micromanager — a manager or person in leadership who tries to control every little detail. It’s not a good quality.

e.g. One day, when Carolyn is the boss, hopefully, she will not be a micromanager.

Speaking exercise

Firstly, I don’t think the MK is a big company because I helping have been at ZT corp for 4 years. I think this kind of big company… the positives are: they have a mature process, and you can work in this company and just follow some mature processes, and guidelines, and you also can meet many very talented people in this type of big company. But the shortcomings of this company is you are a little element in this type of co. and you have little opportunity to have oversee of the whole company and the whole process. So the business view in big company is smaller. So your professional experiences are limited in a bigger company versus a smaller company.

I want to join a startup. The positives in a small company, you can control something, for example. You can start whole new project. And you can make your own decisions. But the shortcomings of this… if you are in a small company, everything for you is new. When you start a job you will have to find new guidelines, you have to make this process from zero [scratch].
