Grammar

Regular past participle 

play/watch/shop (add -ed)

play -> played -> played

Present perfect 

to has/have + past participle (eaten/taken/done/written)

has/have + not + past participle (negative) 

ex. She has eaten chicken

ex I have slept

ex. He has sung    

Usages

past<—–present——>future

indefinite 

-talking about experiences up to the time of speaking 

ex. I have travelled to several countries ->up to this point in my life I have travelled to a few countries

ex. I have been to Thailand with my friend a few years ago.

ex. Have you ever…? A: Yes, I have/No I have never…

-finished actions that affect the present 

ex. I have seen Harry Potter but I still want to watch it again.

ex. My roommate has lost his keys -> he lost it earlier so it’s affecting him now

ex. I have worked on several large projects.

-something that began in the past that is unfinished 

ex. It has rained a lot this week -> It’s been raining for a few days and it may have stopped

ex. I have eaten lunch late today.

-something that started in the past but is still true now – we don’t know whether it will continue or not

ex. I have lived in SH for 8 years -> you’ve been here for 8 years but we don’t know if you will continue

ex. She has worked in the hospital since 2002.
