“How does social media portray consumerism? In your opinion, is it good for everyone?”

We are in consumer society now. I think social media has an unhealthy effect on consumerism. Because I’m working for the social media industry, so I felt that in a really deep way.

People getting information from the internet, some people only getting information from social media.

Since many years ago, merchants starting to through social media to convey people to believe that: if you feeling happy, you should buy something for yourself. if you feeling sorrow, you should buy something to make you happy. until consumerism becomes a society trend now, not only on social media. For me, that’s so wired, why anything can solve by consumed?

People might saw some new things online, and the first thing to come up is: I want to buy it, the next thing is the excuse: I really need it. Buying things that they believe they need them, have nothing to do with real needs. Then everyone posts new things they bought on social media, through this way to showing people I can buy anything I want, I’m having a good life now. But that’s not true. Many young people just don’t understand, if someone likes you, the only reason they like you is that they like your personality, not because you can keep buying new cool stuff, or you seem like have a good life. Social media isn’t a reality. In my opinion, when I think back about my life, I don’t want to regret How many time I wasted on the most meaningless thing in the world— to be consumed.

Revised:

We are in a consumer society now. I think social media has an unhealthy effect on consumerism. Because I’m working for the social media industry, so I feel this deeply.

Most people get information from the internet, but some people only get information from social media.

Since many years ago, merchants promoted/persuaded others via social media to make people believe that: if you’re feeling happy, you should buy something for yourself. if you’re feeling depressed, you should buy something to make you happy. As a result, consumerism is now a social trend, not only on social media. For me, that’s so weird, why can everything be solved by consumerism?

People might see some new things online, and the first thing that comes to mind is: I want to buy it, the next thing is the excuse I really need it. Buying things that people believe they need has nothing to do with real needs. Then everyone posts new things they’ve bought on social media, to show off – I can buy anything I want, I’m having a good life now. But that’s not true. Many young people just don’t understand, if someone likes you, it’s because they like your personality, not because you can afford new, cool stuff, or you seem like you have a good life. Social media isn’t a reality. In my opinion, when I think back about my life, I don’t want to regret the times I wasted on the most meaningless things in the world which is consumerism.Â
