Reading “Volunteers: Improving the World One Act at a Time”
Vocabulary
self-esteem – belief and confidence in your own ability
ex. She suffers from low self-esteem and it prevents her from pursuing her goals.
ex. Volunteering can help to build your self-esteem.
attain – to get/acquire something
ex. He has attained the highest grade in his music exams.
genuine – honest and sincere
ex. He a very genuine person.
ex. She showed genuine interest in the project so her boss put her in charge.
identity – qualities that make someone unique and different from others
ex. I think my job gives me a sense of identity.
ex. The victim’s identity was kept hidden to protect him/her.
dedicate – to give all of your time/energy etc to doing sth
ex. He dedicated his time to helping out those who are homeless.
ex. The book is dedicated to their parents.
Speaking exercise
I’ve ever volunteered in a library near my home.
I see that in there poster on the wall for volunteer so I volunteered inside the library in that summer.
Help them to community better with others. They will have a different day when they volunteer.
