6: 45 am/pm – six forty-five am/pm/fifteen minutes/quarter to seven
Grammar
a/an – first time you mention sth/not specific/not very clear/only countable/singular
ex. There is a homeless dog sleeping under the bridge.
the – after the first time you mention sth/specific/clear/both countable and uncountable/singular and plural
ex. I have a cat. The cat is white.
ex. The cars in this car park are very expensive.
ex. We need to finish this quickly because the deadline is coming.
ex. We will give feedback on the results to you in 3 days.
no article needed – not specific/uncountable/plural + countable
ex. Love is great.
ex. Rice is important to many people.
ex. Cars on the road are white.
ex. There are many buildings in SH.
“the” for countries – if there are states, unions, republics, kingdom in their names
– if there’s an ‘s’ at the end of the country name,
ex. The US/UK/UAE/Netherlands/Philippines/Republic of Ireland/Korea
also use “the” with – mountain ranges/river/seas/oceans/deserts
ex. The Nile/The Pacific Ocean/The Black sea/Sahara Desert/The Himalayas
not with – lakes or mounts
ex. West Lake/Lake Ontario
ex. Mount Fuji
names with “of” – universities, island…
ex. University of SH
ex. The island of ….
ex. The Republic of Congo
countable – you can count “1,2,3,4” (apples, oranges, cookies, cars, people)
uncountable – you cannot count (milk, water, butter, time, money, stress)
singular – one only (no ‘s’)
plural – more than one (with ‘s’)
talk to sbd/chat with sbd – more casual (have a conversation)
speak to/with sbd – in between (for more serious matters)
contact – formal (emails/clients)
Speaking exercise
Sometimes only the watching tv and relax and sometimes will travelling very near the SH area. This holiday I will be travelling to GS. On the night of the end of the September.
