Past continuous tense – ing form

BEFORE

*something you did for a while in the past  – I was reading books yesterday evening.

*two things that took place at the same time in the past – Jenny was eating an apple when Sally was reading books.

*when something happened while something else happened – He was eating when it rained outside.  (ing + simple past tense)

What were you doing at noon yesterday? 

A: I was having lunch
