Writing exercise

We have all heard from scientists and spiritual practitioners that meditation is beneficial for our brain and nervous system. But yet, for newcomers to all things meditation it remains challenging when trying to sit down for a mere 15 minutes without moving or reacting to any voices from outside or inside. On one quiet afternoon, following my yoga practice, I set my alarm for 15 minutes for a short sitting. Within a moment, millions of ideas and thoughts began to arise and I found myself thinking “Wow! What a great idea…I should write it down…. But… wait a minute… I’m still sitting on my cushion…. what should I do…. should I get up now… or should I stay and finish? How about just wait until my alarm goes off?” – so many thoughts, all at once. I realised I felt some chaos from these constant thoughts. In this gap, at this moment of clarity, I became a witness, observing all fluctuations. As my meditation finished, my mind became clear, eased and at peace [and peaceful], but the ideas were still fresh and vivid in my mind.

Many people may not understand why we spend so much time doing nothing, merely sitting, however this is a moment and a gap to hold the space for our emotion. A space for them to freely move about, undisturbed… There is so much violence that happens as a result of people not being able to control their emotions before taking action. Stand above, observe the emotion, and finally take action.

The gap will broaden the space …
Your emotions will limit your clarity …
