Today we focused on:
conversation – talked a bit about pronunciation and making it smooth when connecting words (less taiwanese)
Vocabulary
resent / hold a grudge
eg. holds a grudge against sb
reflection / introspection – to look inside yourself and ask yourself…
eg. I reflect on my experience / I will self reflect / I reflect on what I did
traditional saying / expression – cheng yu
sky diving – tiao san
free-falling – the time when you are just falling, with nothing to slow you down
parachute – jiang luo san
possessive – sb who thinks of their partner as sb they own
eg. he’s really possessive
they deserve each other
spatula – guo can / shao zi (frying)
wok – chinese pot for frying
ladle – big soup spoon
domestic abuse
eg. the guy should have been arrested for domestic abuse
the hotter the tea, the more it could burn you
the more you do it the more risk you have
catalyst – sth that allows sth else to come out / happen faster
slam
eg. he will slam his laptop closed
he has a temper / easy to get angry
suck up to sb / kiss sb’s arse – try to make your boss like you
take a step back – give him some room – be less involved and let them do it themselves
