The western world welcome China to blend in or not, and how China fits in are 2 factors with biggest influence in the relationship. China joined the WTO, and opened to foreign investments, also communication increased, everything seemed optimistic besides the several years since 1989. In the mean time the relationships between China and Japan, Australia, Canada and Europe were peaceful.
As the rapid economical growth came to an end, China had to take some measures to try to keep the growth stay at a acceptable rate to keep the society steady. Unfortunately in the same time the transition period of opening all businesses to foreign investments as China promised during the WTO negotiation is finishing. So the measures and the obligations in the WTO terms come to an difficult crossroad: to abide the promise and change the govern pattern, or to abandon the promise and turn back to western world and keep governing like before.

The relationship between China and other key countries (Part 2)
The Sino-America relationship is the most important among other relationships, for it sets the basic tune to other relationships. America is the founder of order of/in/for the western world. The western world welcomed China to blend in assimilate or not, and how China fits in is the  factors with the biggest influence in the relationship (see below). When America stuck out a hand to China in the 1970s, other western countries did so one after another. China joined the WTO, and opened to foreign direct investments (FDI), also communication increased and everything seemed optimistic besides the several/few years since following 1989. In the mean time the relationships between China and Japan, Australia, Canada and Europe were peaceful.
As the rapid economical growth came to an end, China had to take some measures to try to keep the growth stay at an acceptable rate to keep the society steady stable. Unfortunately in at the same time of the transitioning period of and opening all businesses to foreign investment as China had promised during the WTO negotiation is finishing (see below). So the measures and the obligations in the WTO terms came to an difficult crossroads/dilemma: to abide by the promise and change the governing pattern, or to abandon the promise and turn back to western world and keep governing like before.

The two biggest factors that influence the relationship between China and the West are, the way China was welcomed to assimilate and join the WTO and the way China fits in with the rest of the world.

Unfortunately for China, they are now facing two difficulties. Firstly, economic growth is declining and secondly China failed to meet the criteria stated in the WTO agreement and achieve market status.
