Write about the difference between the way Chinese parents provide their children”s future, and how it use to be before.


Vocabulary

Jellyfish – 水母 a fish with long legs (tentacles) that moves slowly in the ocean and can sting you
Tentacle – the legs of a sea animal like squid, octopus, jellyfish

scorpion – 蝎子 has 6 legs and tail that can sting you. Can eat it in China

Rotten – food that has gone bad and can’t be eaten
eg. My eggs are rotten and I need to go but new eggs
Went bad – to describe food that is old and can’t be eaten; can also a situation that was good but that ended badly
eg. The durian in my basement went bad after a few days
eg. My holiday was going great and then it all went bad when it started raining.
Preservative – something that can keep food good for a long time (used in bread and other things)
eg. I don’t like food with a lot of preservatives because I like fresh food.

Durian – 榴莲 a popular asian fruit with a strong smell

Comfort food – food that makes you feel happy, and have good memories from something.
eg. My favorite comfort food, which is the same for most Canadians, is pancakes.

Everything is up in the air – nothing has been fixed or planned yet.
eg. What are the plans for tonight? ….. Everything is still up in the air.

Makeup (not cosmetic) – something that you were suppose to do and must do later because of some reason.
eg. I couldn’t do my exam on Monday, so I have a makeup exam on Friday.
Make it up
eg. Sorry, I have to cancel. We can go out next week and I’ll make it up to you.
