Vocabulary

Classmates – 同学

Commerce = business (very general degree with many branches)
Chamber of commerce – an organization that helps companies from a certain country

Embassy – 大使馆
Consulate – similar to an embassy but smaller and found in other major cities (not the capital city)

Trustworthy
eg. The company and I share a mutual feeling for each other that neither are trustworthy.

Oversight – to look from above at what someone is doing (kind of like spying)
eg. The company does not trust us and there is so much oversight from their Spanish controller.
Hanging over my shoulder – someone who is constantly looking over your shoulder at the work you do

lingering – something that stays around and does not leave (like the smell of some foods, cigarettes or a person that doesn’t leave)
eg. The Spanish controller is always lingering around my desk and looking at my work.

Tell him off – to say something rude to someone because of something they did
eg. He said someone really mean to me so I told him off.
Put him in his place – to remind someone of what their supposed to be doing (kind of rude thing)
eg. He kept trying to control everything so I told him off and put him in his place.

Reconnaissance – to observe and collect information

Resort (resorted to doing something/resort back to something) – to change what they were planning to do (usually through limited choice)
eg. I planned to learn Chinese, but gave up and resorted back to speaking English.
eg. Sometimes people resort to doing something because they find comfort in doing so.

Infiltrate – to sneak in or be a spy somewhere

Nanny/maid – 阿姨 someone does the cleaning, cooking and caretaking for children

Phony – someone who is not what they claim
eg. He is a phony and always lies about his job, relationships, etc.
