Vocabulary

Retire- When you get old and stop working at your job.

e.g. Two days ago, Jack Ma, the boss of Alibaba, retired.

Munich-  (mu ni hei)

Hamburg- (Hanbao)

Amsterdam- (a mu  si te dan)

Drugs- has two meanings, one is for medicine that the doctor gives you. The other one is things you take or eat to make you feel different.

Weed- has different meanings either verb or noun. The noun means a kind of plant that grows that you don’t like or don’t want.   The verb means to cut out things you don’t want or like. Another meaning is about the drug that we smoke, also called marijuana.

e.g. My boss started weeding out any employees who weren’t doing a good job at work.

Magic mushrooms- Another kind of drug you can find in Amsterdam, it will make you hallucinate.

e.g.  I’m afraid of eating magic mushrooms because I don’t want to hallucinate and see something scary.

Hallucinate- When you see or hear things that are not real or there.  (the noun is hallucination)

e.g. After I took the medicine that my doctor gave me, I started to hallucinate.

Red Light District- An area in Amsterdam with many red lights and a lot of prostitutes.

e.g. In the red light district, there are many women dancing naked in the glass window.

Brothel-A place that people go to have sex with prostitutes

e.g. Many people go to Amsterdam to visit a brothel in the red light district.

Tourist attraction- Things in a country that bring people from outside to visit them.

e.g.  The Eiffel tower is France’s biggest tourist attraction.

Gate-The place we go to take the train, Each one has a specific number.

e.g. The train to Nanjing leaves from Gate 15.

I will go to Germany next month for traveling. I have never been another country, this is my first out of China. I want to talk with foreigner but my English not very well so I’m working hard to improve my English for example here, I need to talk with each other in English more and more. With my friends, just want to go to another country, I don’t know why Germany, my friends idea. Football team, some beer, hot dogs.
