Vocabulary

Antique- Something that is old and has a lot of value now.

e.g. I like to buy antiques but I’m always afraid of buying a fake one.

Authentic/Authenticity- When something is authentic, it is real. If not, it’s fake.

e.g. I’m not sure if this Ming Dynasty vase if authentic or not, it looks like a fake.

Auction- When something is being sold, and people have to try and compete on the price if they want to buy it.

e.g. I once bought a very expensive old ring at an auction in London.

Elgin Marbles- Very famous artifact that was stolen from Greece by England.

e.g. Every year, Greece asks Britain to return the Elgin marbles.
