Vocabulary

Endemic- Describes a disease or other phenomenon, that happens specifically in one place or only among certain people.

e.g.  I think that the Ebola virus was mostly endemic to the African continent.

Epidemic- A way that disease spreads, which is very quickly and affects many people.

e.g. In 2003, there was the SARS epidemic that affected the entire world.

Cartilage- The part of your body that prevents two bones from rubbing against each others, the ting in our joints.

e.g. People think if you eat cartilage, you will stay healthy and young.

Shark- (sha yu)- a big fish that lives in the ocean with sharp teeth.

e.g. If you see a shark while swimming you should not panic and keep watching.

Osteoporosis- A medical condition that affects older people, especially women, that leads to a weakening of their bones.

e.g. The doctor told my friend’s mother she had osteoporosis and would need to drink more milk.

Expression: To put (something or someone) on a pedestal 

To give someone a very special position.
