Vocabulary

Tele- Greek prefix that means something happening at a distance and then transmitted.

e.g. The telephone carries sound from one person to another even if they are not face to face. (phone is a Greek suffix meaning voice)

Pathy or path- Greek suffix that has to do with emotions.

e.g. Psychopath is someone who’s emotions are not normal, both on the psychological and emotional levels.

Telepath- Someone who can read or feel others emotions at a distance.

e.g. Most people don’t believe in telepathy.

Con artist- someone who is involved in dishonest trades or practices and cheats people.

e.g. That financial advisor is a con artist, he only directs people to invest in his private company.

Snake oil- Selling something that is fake but claims that it can do many things.

e.g. Sometimes, people sell Chinese medicine as snake oil, they say it can cure cancer and HIV.

Telekinetic/Telekinesis- the ability to move things with your mind.

e.g. There was a man who could bend spoons with his mind, they called him a telepath.

Ouija Board- A kid’s game that apparently communicates with spirits.

e.g. I played the ouija board one night with my friends and then had nightmares all night long.
