Read Nikola Gogol’s “The Overcoat”

Vocabulary

Genre- A word coming from the French language that means type or kind, usually to describe categories of movies, novels, or music.

e.g. I rarely watch any other genre of movie than horror.

Plot- The story or main thing that happens in the book, movie, or play.

e.g. I saw a movie last weekend and was totally taken aback by the plot,  it really surprised me!

Dynamic- A kind of relationship and how it is, usually between two people or two groups, kind of like the  chemistry between two people.

e.g. The current friendly dynamic between President Trump and Kim Jong Il is one most people never expected.

Aptitude vs Ineptitude- The first is to be able to do something while the second is to be unable.

e.g. My boss said he was firing me because of my ineptitude for meeting the monthly sales target.

e.g. They really want to hire that person because he shows a very high aptitude in selling high value products.

Eccentric- Someone who exhibits different traits or personalities from most others.

e.g. Steve Jobs is considered to be one of the most successful eccentric businessmen in recent history.

Humanities- The field of study that encompasses all of the social sciences or humanistic studies, things that relate to human beings and culture.

e.g. Psychology, Literature, Anthropology, Sociology, Liberal Arts,

  • Taught degree: You have to complete all the required courses to graduate.
  • Research degree: You must complete a  major research project to graduate. Generally, in the first semester, you will be required to complete a certain set of courses.
