Vocabulary

Probation- The period of time at work or other places/situations where you are still being evaluated on your ability.

e.g. After I pass my driving test, I will be given a probation license which means I have to drive with someone else on the highway.

Demerit points- The total number of points connected with your driver’s license which allows you to avoid losing your license.

e.g. When you get your license, you only have a certain number of demerit points allowed.

Driving offense- A behaviour or action you do while driving that you shouldn’t do, and that the police will punish you for.

e.g. In China, drinking and driving is a serious driving offense, you will lose many points and have to pay a very large fine.

Offend/Offensive- When something makes someone feel mad, angry, or hurt.

e.g. What she said was very offensive to all the people who ever experienced being poor.

License plate- The flat piece of metal with numbers on it that is attached to the back of the car and helps identify its owner.

e.g. Before you drive a new car, you need to put a license plate on it, otherwise you are committing a driving offense.

Expired- Something that is past its best date or time, either food or documents.

e.g. If you drive with an expired license, you are committing a driving offense.

Mimic/Imitate- To try and copy the way of doing something.

e.g. If you want to improve your language ability, you should try to imitate or mimic native speakers.

Grammar

Will get better VS Will be better

CANNOT SAY “I WILL BE GET BETTER”

I know right now you feel sad, and school is very difficult for you, but don’t worry and trust me when I say things will get better. (a change of situation to something else)

vs

I know our boss said you can submit the project tomorrow morning, but it will/would be better if you could send it tonight because he has many meetings in the morning. (to prefer something over something else)
