Write a small piece on the consumption habits of the new Chinese generation.

Vocabulary

Dense-  when something is very compact.

e.g. If you go to Hong Kong, you’ll realize it’s very densely populated, there are people everywhere.

Countdown-  used as a noun, it describes when people count down to a special moment.

e.g. On new year’s eve, most people countdown during the last 10 seconds before the new year.

Fireworks- The things we shoot in the sky during big festivals like new years.

e.g If you go to Hong Kong for new year’s, you’ll see the Victoria Harbor light up with fireworks.

Firecrackers- the small fireworks we use that make very loud sounds or noises.

e.g. They say that lighting firecrackers on new year’s eve will make all the bad luck go away.

Century- one hundred years

e.g. Many countries and businesses like to celebrate their centennial anniversary.

Millennial- All the people who are alive today have only seen the change of one millennium, which is every thousand years.

e.g. Most people thought that when the new millennium changed, it would be the end of the world. It was called Y2K.

Millennials- People who were born in the new millennial.

e.g. Millennials will make up the largest consumer group in the next 10 to 15 years.

Consumption habits/patterns- How a group of people consumes or buys products.

e.g. Consumption habits among young people are starting to slow down, because many of them are concerned about the environment.

Disposable-   Something you can use once and then throw away.

e.g. I don’t like to use disposable containers because they are harmful for the environment.

Disposable Income- The part of your salary that you can spend however you want without worrying.

e.g. most people living with their family have a high disposable income because they pay no rent.
