Homework

Do a short piece of writing on a Middle Eastern building you really like. Describe it.

Vocabulary

Chanting- When a group of people say or sing something together.

e.g. The people in the temple all started chanting oh mani ped mi hum

Massacre- when a large group of people are killed at nearly the same time by someone.

e.g. There was a massacre in Nanjing when the Japanese invaded China.

Converted- to change from one religion to another.

e.g. I was born Christian but I later converted to Islam.

Judaism- The Jewish religion.

e.g. My mother follows Judaism but I don’t follow it.

Converter- A kind of device that changes the electricity when you are traveling.

e.g. I forgot to bring my converter and now I can’t charge my phone.

Condemned- When you condemn something you talk about how something should not happen and you say you don’t support it.

e.g. Gandhi often held protests but always condemned violence, meaning he never used it.

Alleged- When you are not sure about something or someone who did something

e.g. The alleged killer was finally shown to be innocent.

Renounce- To give up an idea or religion.

e.g. I used to be a Christian but finally I renounced my religion  because my priest was too strict.

Drawn in- When something pulls you in, you feel attracted to it.

e.g. Madonna’s concert has drawn in more than 5000 people.

Accuse- when you say something about someone that you are not sure is true.

e.g. The person accused me of hitting them but my camera showed it wasn’t true.
