Vocabulary

Divisive- It divides people  into two groups,  one that thinks one thing, and the other another.

e.g. Thanksgiving is a very divisive holiday in America because of its dark history.

Abolish- to destroy or remove especially regarding laws and rules.

e.g. The north part of the USA wanted to abolish slavery but the south wanted to keep it.

Portrayed-  how you describe someone, the image you give people of someone or something.

e.g.  America is often portrayed as a land of wealth and opportunity.

Batter- The mixture of powder and water that you dip things in, like french fries, tempura

e.g. Kentucky Fried Chicken has really good batter, when you fry the chicken it becomes very crispy.

Crust-  the crispy outside part of fried things or pizza or bread.

e.g. Kentucky fried chicken’s crust doesn’t take the same in China as it does in the U.S.

Perception- What you see, how you see something, what’s your view.

e.g. What is your perception of Shanghai, do you think it’s still a growing market or is it saturated?

Tempura- Tian fu luo a japanese fried dish.

e.g. I love having fried tempura, it’s my favorite dish.

Surveillance- Anything to do with cameras, spying, and listening to people’s conversation.

e.g. Edward Snowden exposed illegal surveillance in the United States.
