Vocabulary

Preach- When you persuade people about the benefits of your religion.

e.g. Not many people nowadays will preach to random strangers.

Downplay- When you make something seem less important than it actually is.

e.g. He tried to downplay the fact that he had lost every one of his clients because he was not organized.

Quote/(noun or verb) –When you use someone’s ideas to talk about something.

e.g. When you write an essay you should quote a lot of professionals/books/people.

Quota- The number of something that you must reach or that is allowed.

e.g. Many Chinese universities have a quota on how many students they can admit from other provinces.

e.g. In university I wrote a lot of essays.

Estimate- When you give an approximate idea of something

e.g. My customer always asks me for an estimate before I start the work.

Advocate- to try and promote or get others to listen and do something.

e.g. Many people today advocate for the equal rights of men and women, including salary.

Predict- Think of something and know it will happen.

e.g. I predict that Donald  Trump will win the election again this year.

Moderate- Something that isn’t very heavy or light, something that is in the middle.

e.g. He was driving at a moderate speed.

Oppose-To go against someone.

e.g. If you oppose your boss’ decision, he will probably fire you.
